I love providing clients with supplemental materials to consume between sessions. It can be validating to know that we are not alone in our personal struggles with sexuality. I also think it's empowering to take knowledge into our own hands. 

A Sex Therapist’s Perspective 

When clients come to me grieving the loss of erections, a 3-part podcast series always comes to mind by Death, Sex, and Money with Anna Sale. I love this podcast for being willing to openly talk about three of the most social taboos, as the title suggests. The fact that there is a massive following of listeners shows just how important and necessary these conversations are. Considering I'm a sex therapist, I appreciate conversations related to sex that are deep, honest, and vulnerable, so of course I relish these episodes. I hope you do too. 

Death, Sex, and Money Podcast is Important for Erectile Dysfunction

Each podcast episode focuses on a different element of erectile dysfunction:

1. Focuses on the history of erectile issues and the medicalization of it

2. Dives into the medical and scientific advancements that led up to Viagra's FDA approval in 1998 and how the marketing of Viagra has changed over the years

3. Interviews with people who have used Viagra and how their beliefs about sex have shifted from being a goal-oriented pursuit to one that is much more about pleasure and acceptance

Which Part is the Best for those with Erectile Issues? 

All three are insightful and impactful to listen to, but I deem part three especially relevant to my work with clients. If you are cramped for time and can only listen to one episode, part three is the one to listen to.

A Few Last Thoughts…

In a way, the stories these people share are similar to how I gently try to direct not only my clients suffering from erectile dysfunction but ALL my clients struggling to find other ways to experience sexual pleasure besides penetration.
